DIY Painted + Basket

Last week I was prepping myself for an IKEA trip. I always have to have a list or I get a little overwhelmed. And I saw Tell Love and Chocolate's painted IKEA GADDIS basket. I loved the idea. I had wanted a different basket to hold a few of Noah's toys in the living room and the basket was perfect.

I didn't want to make my basket too colorful since there are several other pieces in the living room that have a lot of color. I decided to use a little black paint to add some detail to the basket. I started by painting one "plus" on the side. Then I painted the next "plus" diagonal to the first one. I kept my pattern going around the entire basket.

I love how it turned out. It was very simple and inexpensive to do but I love the character that it adds to an otherwise plain basket. xo, Britt

Friday Fun 8.28

Well, it's Friday again (yay!). As you've probably notice that mostly Brittnee has been posting lately. Part of the reason is because I have had a crafting mind block lately and the other half is because I have recently started my fall semester of school. I've been a little bit in over my head with everything I have going on and luckily Brittnee's creative juices have been rapidly flowing so she has been taking on a lot until I can get back into the swing of things.

So as an update for myself:

1. I've started my fall semester of school (like I mentioned).

2. After this semester I will have an associates degree. (Yaaaay!)

3. I watch Noah in the morning/afternoons on days I don't have class.

4. I also watch a few kids in between classes on Thursday.

5. I recently got my self a new job!

So if you couldn't tell I've been a little busy lately and thank goodness Brittnee has been here to help me out when I need it!

But other then that, I've been patiently waiting for Sophie to get here. We all are so excited to meet her!  It seems like it's taking FOREVER . (but that could be since Noah made a VERY early appearance, haha!)

In blog "news", Brittnee has got a lot of adorable things in the works that you all are going to want to see! And as for me, I've been generating some ideas and hope to show you some of them next week!

Have a great weekend y'all! And until next time, enjoy these adorable pictures!!

Fun DIY Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are a fun and easy way to add personality to a room. I felt like our couch was really missing something so I decided to make two really cute and simple pillows to add some color and fun texture.

Here is what you'll need:

*These covers can be washed, but I would recommend turning them inside out and washing on a cold and gentle cycle. Then hang to dry.

For the "hello" throw pillow:

Print 1 copy of the hello PDF on iron transfer paper, then carefully cut around the word. Leaving about a 1/8” border around it.

Place the your word in the center and face down on the pillow cover. Set your iron to the highest setting without steam. Iron the word for about 60 seconds. Make sure to pay special attention to the edges.

Once the pillow cover is completely cooled, carefully peel the backing off.

Stuff your pillow cover with an insert and you are good to go!

To add a little extra fun to your pillow, use your yarn to make a pom pom for each corner of the pillow. (see easy tutorial here) Attach the pom poms using needle and thread.

For the triangle throw pillow:

Print 1 copy of the triangle PDF on iron transfer paper, then carefully cut out as many triangles as you want to use. I cut all of them out but then eliminated some as I placed them into the pattern that I wanted.

Place the triangles any way you'd like face down on the pillow cover. Set your iron to the highest setting without steam. Iron the word for about 60 seconds. Make sure to pay special attention to the edges!!

Once the pillow cover is completely cooled, carefully peel the backing off.

Stuff your pillow cover with an insert and you are good to go!

To add a little extra fun to your pillow, use a decorative trim on the edges. I found this fun trim and added it to the top and bottom edges of the pillow using a hot glue gun.

These pillows add so much life to the couch and the whole living room! I love the way they turned out! xo, Britt

Functional & Styled Entryway

Entryways are a great place to have functional pieces and also show off your style at the same time. When I was trying to plan your our entryway area there were a few things that I knew I really wanted: a place for shoes, mail, and our keys. I didn't have an exact plan when I went to IKEA, but I knew that I would be able to find the perfect thing once I looked around.

When I found these IKEA BISSA shoe cabinets, I knew that they were exactly what I needed. This gave a spot for Jake, me, Skylar, and Noah to all keep s few pairs of shoes (even four pair of Jake's size 13 shoes will fit into a compartment). They are at a good height to have a place for all of the other things that I wanted to have in the entry. After having Jake secure the cabinets to the wall, I placed on some books, plants, a mail organizer, and our key bowl (tutorial here), and it was good to go.

I really like having this space set up. It makes it this space super functional and it also looks cute :) xo, Britt

Friday Fun 8.21

It has been great getting back into blogging daily. I needed the break that I took, but if feels so good to be back at it. I thought that we would continue to have Friday's showcase some behind the scenes and just random things that are going on over here. Plus it's always a great opportunity to show off pictures of Noah. :)

1. A little over a week ago I decided that I deserved flowers  so I went and bought myself a colorful little bouquet. And most of the flowers still look awesome. I love walking into the kitchen seeing bright and colorful fresh flowers.

2. I have got A LOT of fun projects in the works that I can't wait to share with you. Plus there are some fun areas in our new rental that I am going to be showing off next week. I have been super busy getting it all ready to show off and I can't wait for you to see!

3. I have been wanting to read more for quite some time now. It has been basically impossible with everything that I had going on. But I am still working to make it happen. I am currently reading Creative Confidence by Tom & David Kelley (find it here). Slowly but surely I am going to get through my pile of books that I want to read.

4. I made this instead of working one night. :) I was totally inspired by this DIY over at Homey Oh My and just had to make my own.

5. And lastly. As promised, a couple photos of my crazy little man. :)
