We have a lot of big, new things coming our way soon. And most of these things are happening fast and needing a lot of our time. So we have decided that we are taking this week off from the blog to focus our attention on them. But don't worry! We will be back soon + of course we will fill you in soon. :) have a great week! Xoxo, Britt + Sky
The Weekly Randoms
Apparently Brittnee told everyone I would writing this weeks "random post." So thanks for that! And sorry in advance to everyone, I'm socially awkward.. (Yes even over the Internet) Buckle up, here goes nothing. :)
1. I have been super obsessed with antique stores, thrift shops, garage sales, estate sales, etc.
I've spent many weekends with my favorite people searching for fun, weird things that interest me. These are my recent lovely finds. :)
2. I've also recently been on many fun, short road trips with my momma! They've been so much fun. Between weekends in Columbia to all our exciting college visits. We've had some interesting experiences to say the least, but I'm kinda sad the college visits are over. (Don't tell her that though, please.)
3. Oh and someone, not mentioning names (BRITTNEE) kicked me out of my room. I'm currently living off this shelf, out of boxes,& Noah's new closet. Apparently the new baby has to have a room, so since I'm leaving in January ( ya, let's not talk about that) I have to stay in the guest room.
But in all honesty I'm super happy to have to live in here because of a new baby. And I've tried to make it my own as much as I can. :)
4.Now the part I don't like talking about. I've been busy with school + after this fall semester I will officially have an associates degree! Yay! But the downfall to it all is after I finish next semester I have to move on. Go to a four year school and worst of all leave Noah (and I guess Britt + Jake too) behind. :( And to add to it, another baby will be here.. But I've officially decided where I'm going (Missouri Western State University).
5. Of course I couldn't end this post without a little Noah bragging. Being with him daily has been a blessing and it's so amazing to watch a little human learn and grow. We have our days where I almost leave him outside till Britt gets home, but he always does something so sweet and reminds me why I stick around. :) Anyway enjoy this adorable pictures!
Well I did it. I wrote the whole thing without sounding too awkward. (I think..) I'll just stop rambling now. Happy Friday lovelies! xo, Sky
Thrifty: Glass Box
This weekend we had a girls day and went with our mom to some antique stores + on our way home we stopped by a estate sale. One of my lovely finds is this small, adorable glass box. I thought it was pretty awesome and it was even more awesome when I saw the price, only 25cents! I had to buy it.
When I picked it up I saw there was a problem, one of its legs was broken.:( But I figured for only a quarter I could just buy it and figure out a way to fix it. And if I couldn't fix it I would only lose a quarter.
First I just sawed off the rest of its legs (which was a lot easier than I thought it would be) + filed down its rough edges.
Then, after taping the glass off, I spray painted it. (Gold of course) I originally wanted to glue marbles to the bottom for the legs, but of course I couldn't find round marbles anywhere! So instead Brittnee helped me pick out these awesome, hot pink beads and I hot glued them!
It honestly turned out a lot better than I expected. I figured it was going to be one of those "nailed it" projects like you see on Pinterest. But I love it + it's perfect for a jewelry holder! xo, Sky
DIY Keychain
Recently I have been obsessed with different Buddha statues and Buddha art, for no reason really. I just started seeing statues and art pieces of the different statues and I fell in love. I think they are so interesting and beautiful. On a "quick run" to Joann's recently (we all know a trip to a craft store is never quick) Brittnee found this awesome orange bracelet charm that I fell in love with. :) I knew I had to have it, after all it was only $2.99, but I wasn't sure what I could do with it. I really didn't think I would like it as a bracelet. So I came up with the idea of making a keychain out of it. With Brittnee's help, I decided leather cord would be the best choice to string it on.
First, I took out the metal piece that went through the charm. It was pretty easy to bend so I just straightened it out on one end and pulled it out through the other.
Then I cut my cord and tied a knot in one end.
After I put the charm onto the cord, I decided I needed a few more beads to make it complete. So I found a couple beads we had in the craft closet and added them to the cord as well.
To secure it I just double knotted the top of the cord to my key ring. The cord is strong so it won't break easily. And it also moves easily around my key ring as my keys shift around.
I'm basically madly in love with this keychain. (judge me, I dare you) I really don't know what it is about these Buddha statues, but I just can't get enough of them. :) xo, Sky
Family Theme Nights: Movie Night
It's crazy how much money we can spend on eating out each month. In my experience, half of the time we go out, the wait is super long, the place is crowded, and normally so loud that we can barely hear ourselves think let alone talk to each other. I am not sure why its so appealing.
A few months ago, I sat down and started looking over our budget. I was completely blown away when I realized that so much extra money was going to eating out. Sometimes it seems easier to just go grab something to eat, versus cooking dinner at home. Plus its fun to go somewhere, it gives us something to do.
I made the decision that I wanted to come up with a way for us to eat at home and not feel like we were missing out from not going to dinner on the weekends. I came up with the idea to have family theme nights. We take turns coming up with the theme, from the details of the dinner to the family fun we are going to have after dinner. We look forward to these nights. We help each other make dinner, we eat together, and we just have so much fun!
We decided that we are going to start sharing our theme nights with you. That way you can start this fun tradition with your family. This week we are sharing our movie night theme. This is a little more unconventional than most of our themes. We have soft pretzels with nacho cheese, and a sweet and salty popcorn bar. It's not the healthiest dinner, but hey, it's fun and delicious!
We get our plates ready and our popcorn dressed up and sit down to watch a movie together. If we are feeling real crazy, we watch a couple movies. We are just prepared to have to take turns going and getting Noah and cleaning up all of his messes during the movies.
We are so excited to start sharing our fun family dinners with you. Hope you enjoy them! Happy Monday lovelies! xo, Britt
