For some people it is really hard to imagine the potential in something. When I see something I can only see potential, it's how my brain works. I think of all of the different ways that I can make the object "so me." Which a lot of times includes gold spray paint! I have a problem ... don't judge.

But there are certain things that you want to look for when finding a not so pretty object and customizing it. You want the object to have good bones. If the structure isn't sturdy or you can't easily make it so, then you should look past it. I am notorious for picking random things off the side of the road. I vividly recall me, Skylar, and Brooklynn putting 6 mismatched chairs into my car in the middle of the night. But sadly most of the chairs were in such bad shape that it didn't make sense for me to use them.

You also want to look at the shape and/or character of the object. I love unique pieces. For example, this super cute shaped planter that I found at an estate sale. I hated the color of it but I LOVED the shape. It was different than any that I had seen before. It was definitely a factor in why I decided to purchase it.
